    Our Primary Vocation is Holiness Happiness is doing the will of God. Interestingly, that could also be the definition of holiness. The primary and universal vocation of every person in the world is to be holy-to become like Jesus Christ. Christ-likeness is the only success recognized by God. Or, as St. Bonaventure said: “If you learn everything except Christ, you learn nothing. If you learn nothing except Christ, you learn everything.”11 Interestingly, the people who take holiness seriously are also the people who experience the most happiness here in this life. Why? Because our holiness is preparing us for the supreme happiness of heaven, the true destiny for which we were made, not some glimmer of happiness which we might experience here. Holiness directly leads to fulfillment and human flourishing, and the entire concept of vocation encompasses both. The first vocation of every baptized person is to become a saint. While that may seem daunting, the good news is that this vocation does not require any discernment. The Church and Sacred Scripture both tell us clearly and definitively that holiness is everyone’s primary vocation. The Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real though imperfect. In her members, perfect holiness is something yet to be acquired. Strengthened by so many and such great means of salvation, all the faithful, whatever their condition or state-though each in his own way-are called by the Lord to that perfection of sanctity by which the Father himself is perfect. CCC #825 Discerning and accepting one’s vocation is like building a pyramid. It must be constructed from the bottom up. A man will not be able to know and accept his secondary or particular vocation-marriage or priesthood, for example-until he has been seriously striving towards his primary vocation of holiness. Some have tried to do it in reverse, and almost always have failed. Few chapters from " To Save a Thousand of Souls " by fr Brett Brannen regarding vocation

    8:40... Philistines were Greeks... Muslims are not Philistines... Muslim Arab colonized the region in 7 century when Caliph Umar conquered the region.. According to Islamic tradition, in 637 or 638, Caliph Umar (r. 634-644) traveled to Jerusalem in person to receive the submission of the city. The Patriarch Sophronius surrendered to him.

    Just what every Catholic longs for on the major Christian Feast of Pentecost - an Islamic scholar holding forth on their religion. I wonder if the Schools of Islamic Theology invite Catholic or other Christian scholars to sermonize them on their most holy days? Right. Sad but predictable from my alma mater, the bastion of Wokeness that has lost its way. Be sure to wear your hijab to Mass and accept dry lecturing from non-Christians on your faith.

    His background information is good. ..his explanation of the beatitudes is typically poor. He has been misled by John Piper and Richard Horsley. Dallas Willards Divine Conspiracy explains them much better.. the blessedness is because of the kingdom being available not because their state, they are all in indicatives.. not imperitives. John Barclay hits on the incongruity of grace and that's what it's about. The beattitudes are an example of Jesus "proclamation of the good news of the kingdom". Neither is Jesus intensifyinv the Law he is simply correcting rabbicinic misinterpretations.. he says nothing that was not already in the Torah . Eg. The Greek "lust" is same word for covet in the 10 commandments.

      I am giving a presentation on the Sermon on the Mount and thought that I would listen to a few Catholic sources to cite in my presentation. So far, I am two for two on shockingly anti-Jewish content. This one isn't as bad as the first that I encountered, but yes, it is as if this man has never heard of the "Old Testament."

    • @Liminalplace1
      @Liminalplace1 Рік тому

      @@AdaraBalabusta I think the key is understanding the original purpose of the Mosaic law (Torah) to give wisdom by instruction not as legislation. No Israelite believe they were saved by keeping the Torah, but their life in the land would be "blessed". The curse was the exile. Jesus fulfilled the law because he came to bring wisdom by instruction (by Spirit) ...that's the context of the Sermon on the Mount. They aren't new laws or legislation but wisdom of kingdom living..that transformed ones heart. I've yet to find anyone better than Dallas Willard on this.

    One thing is true historically, intellectually, and spiritually for all Catholics in America who bring in brilliant public scholars and, frankly, who support every Mass in America. Even though it’s been in use for almost a century and a half since it was invented, Roman Catholics (of the Latin Rite) are incorrigibly, fastidiously, incredibly, diametrically, vehemently and unconscionably opposed to using a microphone for ALL speakers at conferences. Ever. And Especially at Q and A. Because Catholics believe if do not have ears to hear, a pox must rest on your House and therefore, thou shalt not be given further aid. Perhaps one day, like Galileo was forgiven for his scandalous theories 1500 years later by Pope JP 2, we will see the Holy Catholic Church and the Pontifical Leadership formally forgive Alexander Graham Bell (An American, btw.) for taming our heavenly bestowed, God-given airwaves, release a Papal Bull on the subject, call a 3rd Vatican Council for the Magisterium to academically address the use and distribution of this scientifically confirmed power, and give American bishops guidance and mechanisms for distribution for their flocks and universities to actually use this God-given power for the Common Good during lectures, speeches, public addresses and homilies.* **It is recognized that Catholic Churches and all parishioners, living or deceased, who have participated in Bingo nights since the middle of the 20th century have used this illicit power prophylactically (so aging ears can properly hear their card numbers called, thus avoiding octogenarian fistfights, making everyone a Channel of God’s peace, because Money), are exempt from Magisterial interferences of any kind. It is assumed that all Bingo ladies will be granted forgiveness if they also say 3 Hail Marys and a Glory Be. (c) copyrighted material, 2022. PS Dr. Moses, I loved the lecture. Couldn’t hear the Q’s but that’s not on you. Much insight into Francis.

    Chastity is a sign of the goal, Obedience shapes the journey, breaks through the barriers and Poverty lightens the step for the kingdom. -- At the synod of religious life (1994), Cardinal (Roger Marie Élie) Etchegaray (25/9/22-4/9/19), great, great (French) Cardinal .. said of religious, "I ask only one thing of you, 'be poor' .. embrace poverty". -- I think very few of us in the west are really poor. I know a lot of poor religious in the developing world but not so many here. -- Somebody I know .. a rich banker and she joined the religious life in England to embrace poverty and she found out that she was better off in the Order than she had been before. I think at least, let us hope that we have simple lives which challenge the illusions, the seductions of consumerist society. Our society is always trying to persuade us that happiness is a big sports' car or vast amounts of money or a massive mansion -- Poverty is about learning to desire more, deepening desire, resisting the seductions of the superficial things -- .. A simple life simplifies desire, intensifies it, liberates us from the seduction of consumerism. -- .. Religious life .. embodies a vivant invitation to our contemporaries to 'live' not to live the religious life but to 'live'. Moses says to the people of Israel, 'I put before you life and death. Choose life' .. I think our vows actually have value only as saying something about what it means to be alive .. Chastity shows the way to a love in which we dare to transcend difference, Obedience shapes us as pilgrims on the way and Poverty helps us to shed what burdens us as we travel. --

And it works for them till now ...
